big bike adventure #

Wyatt and I went on a big bike adventure again today. I love these moments with him we have so much fun together. It’s about a 12 mile round trip to go to our favorite coffee shop and back so I make it a reward that we can get something from the shop any time we make that big effort.

First time through the tight gravel shortcut along the tracks

The ride there was full of energy and laughter. We saw some deer this time. The ride home was a bit more focused on making it home.

Interesting device from Scott Tolinski here. Looks like a fun, novel build for a problem he has that no one else is going to just build for him. I like how he was able to build it with such cheap and available hardware.

I’m not sure how I feel about this single purpose device movement. Coming from a generation who dreamed of the phones we have today it feels weird to go the other way.

State of Agentic Coding #10 with Armin and Ben

The state of agentic coding is one of my favorite new podcasts of late. The name sounds just like the same slop as everything else, but Ben and Armin are top tier hosts that actually do this stuff for work and on the side.

slowing down and speeding up

Which brings me to the first intersting topic they talked about. Both talked about going slow at work. Ben still reads everything and deeply understands the insode of what he is working on. Home is a different story. At home both are cranking on new side projects, vibing them out quick and fast. The projects work for them and thats all they need. They dont need to support hundreds of users. All making it much easier to just let thr clanker kick new things out fast.

An interesting side topic on open weight models. Armin opened with them being too expensive. The big labs have such good subsidies right now that it’s hard to justify not using them. He did have an interesting use case though. He has a side project using cheap Chinese carplay devices. When trying to get openai to work on them it tends to refuse to work for security reasons, but if he starts thr session with kimi, openai has no problems continuing.

This is the first time I’ve seen or heard of Perry Daniels, I really like his editing style, it reminds me of good eats; the tone, tempo, the resesarch, the odd camera angles.

I found this video very inspiring to go make something, My wife likes to keep field notes and sometimes has one for a few different tasks at the same time. It would be so cool to make her some custom ones for each.

politics in linux #

IDK if I agree with DHH on politics, have not gone looking for his views, dont really care to. I can 100% get behind leaving politics out of work, foss, linux. Until he starts dropping that omarchy money on some non-oss linux manner I'm with it. I dont think there is a world in which you can completely disassociate yourself with everyone that has a different viewpoint than yourself. There will always be things that simply don't align with your lived experiences and that is okay.

when did openai bring back the hourly limit #

Here I am cranking away with luna==max== tokenmaxxing on my **$20** plus sub trying to keep 3 running around the clock to burn those precious tokens when open ai comes back and re-introduces the 5 hour limit, I just got used to rocking only a weekly limit.

second brain slop is dumb #

The second brain hype train of people looking at fancy graphs in obsidian of the content their clanker wrote for them is top tier cringe. If you actually want to get better at anything you need to actually put some effort in with your first brain.

agentic engineering takes discipline #

Agents allow so much scope creep it is harder to say no than it is to say yes, and let the model just pop in a new feature for you alongside you current pr with almost no effort on your befalf, staking up so much validation work for you to do that it becomes very difficult to merge. We are all learning this discipline right now.
